How to Grab a Single Frame from a Downloaded TikTok Video as an Image

Scrolling through TikTok, you'll often see a single frame that would make a great profile picture, cover image, or design element — but there's no built-in way to "save just that image" from a video. The trick is simple: download the full video first, then grab that frame using tools already built into your phone or computer — no extra screen-capture app needed.

Step 1: Download the video first

As usual, copy the video link, paste it into ReelGrab, and download the MP4 HD · No watermark version — this step matters, because a watermarked copy will have the logo baked into every frame, including the one you want to capture. Always grab the watermark-free version first.

Option 1: Use your phone's built-in photo/video tools

iPhone: after saving the video to Photos, open it, tap the edit icon in the toolbar, drag the scrubber to the exact frame you want, then tap the share button and choose "Save as Photo" (on some iOS versions, simply pausing and taking a regular screenshot works too).

Android: most gallery apps (Samsung Gallery, Google Photos, etc.) let you pause a video at a specific frame and tap a "Capture frame" or screenshot button to save it as an image directly. If your gallery app doesn't have that option, pausing the video and using your phone's regular screenshot shortcut works nearly as well.

Option 2: Use a desktop media player

Open the downloaded video in a built-in media player (Movies & TV on Windows, QuickTime on Mac), scrub to the frame you want, pause, and use your system's screenshot shortcut (Win + Shift + S on Windows, Cmd + Shift + 4 on Mac) to capture just the player window.

If you need pixel-perfect precision (say, for a design project), drag the video into a video editor — CapCut on mobile, or DaVinci Resolve/Premiere on desktop (both have free tiers) — and step through frame by frame to land exactly where you want before exporting as an image. This is more precise than pausing playback and taking a screenshot.

Can I skip downloading the video and just grab the cover image directly? Right now ReelGrab only offers MP4 video and MP3 audio downloads — there isn't a dedicated "cover image only" export yet. If you just want the video's own thumbnail, that's a reasonable ask and we've noted it as something to consider adding.

Will the captured frame be full quality? Yes — as long as you downloaded the HD, watermark-free version, the frame you capture reflects that same quality. The capture step itself doesn't add extra compression (though your gallery app's own compression settings might have a small effect, unrelated to this workflow).
